Highly architectural seven-armed geometric/brutalist candelabra in heavy solid brass with chunky hexagonal cups by Metallslöjden Gusum.
Metallslöjden Gusum was a Swedish metalworking manufacturer based in Gusum, Östergötland, a region with a tradition of brass production dating back to the 17th century. Metallslöjden Gusum were particularly known for sculptural brass domestic objects, particularly candlesticks and candelabra, and produced a distinctive range of numbered and dated designs during the 1970s and 1980s.
This piece is a great example of architectural late-20th-century Swedish brassware.
The piece has the full set of foundry markings, the foundry stamp, model number (120) and actual makers’ initials. Pieces from this series were produced in 3, 4, 5 and 7-light variations. The 7-light variation is the largest and considered the most sought-after as it has an impressive table top presence.
We have deliberately left the brass unpolished, preserving its beautiful, naturally developed patina. There are a couple of marks on the base and cups, see photos.
The piece comes with its original wax guards which are held in place by the candle.
