Heavy and rather gorgeous art deco cast iron jardiniere.
This functional piece has strong geometric lines and angular handles with a faceted octagonal / boat shaped basin typical of the era. It has a lovely central motif featuring a stylisted floral design with geometric stars and scrolling fan shapes. There is a dentil (notched) border along the upper rim. which accentuates the architectural, machine-age design of the period.
Made of heavy cast iron, the surface is weathered with a heavy patina, surface rust and remnants of the original paint.
This piece was sourced in France and is typical of garden antiques produced in this period in the Haute-Marne region. Its has two small holes in the base so that water can escape and would be perfect for use with small pots, lots of vintage charm.
