Country scene, acrylic on canvas, signed R. Konig

£220.00

A soothing 20th century painting signed R. Konig, in a gold wood frame.

This beautifully rendered painting captures the charm of the rolling countryside using bold and impressionistic strokes. A vast landscape unfurls down a valley with hills rising up again in the distance to meet a pale blue sky.

The light is reminiscent of a spring morning and the style is somewhat modernist, utilising wide planes of colour to capture the overall form of the subject as the viewers eye is taken on a journey along a country lane past trees just coming into leaf, and down into a valley where a small village lies. Within the village we see a number of dwellings as well as a little church, its spire just rising into the distant blue hills of the far-off landscape.

There are so many beautiful colours harmoniously deployed in this little painting that is really carries with it a sense of the joy of those first spring mornings of the year, waking early to find it will be a sunny day, the cool of the morning still in the air. It gives a feeling that one is about to set out for the first time that year on foot, up at dawn, the birds beginning their sweet chorus and letting the road take you onward.
