Dating from the Art Deco Movement (1920s-1930s), this unusual candleholder has bold geometric style and the swooping curves iconic of Art Deco motifs.
There is a gorgeous ribbed detail at the base which is very typical of the era’s aesthetic.
The main body features a twin U-shaped scroll or lyre shape with each side holding a taper candle over flat drip plates. Finished in glossy rich jade green glaze which highlights its curves.
The piece was designed by artist Blanche Letalle, an influential French ceramic artist and designer who was principle designer for the manufacturer Saint-Clement. Founded in 1758, Saint-Clement is one of the most historic and prestigious names in French earthenware and faiance.
