A large impressionist-style oil on canvas, signed by the artist.
This lovely painting is reminiscent of the works of Claud Monet, and depicts a classic river scene lined with slender poplar trees leading the eye to a small village in the centre distance. A sailboat drifts quietly down the river with trees reflected in the water.
Painted with confident loose brushstrokes, the colour palette leans heavily into soft, desaturated earth tones and cool pastels. The trees bring considerable vertical rhythm, painted with feather-light strokes. The small white sailboat forms the central focus of the painting as it glides towards the steeple in the distance.
It has a quiet and contemplative mood, with lots of tonal harmony. A lovely peaceful riverside scene.
It is framed in a gold wooden frame, which has a couple of signs of wear, see photos.
