Carved Baroque-style mirror.
This wonderful mirror is replete with symbolism. The carved wooden surround features two dolphins, a classical urn overflowing with flowers and at the base a beautiful shell.
The crowned basket of abundance on top symbolise a wealthy fruitful home. Below the two dolphins in a Baroque style were seen as being guardians of travellers and protectors of the home against bad luck. The repeating foliate borders and shells represent rebirth and the safe journey through life.
Based on earlier carvings, this mirror was likely made during the Baroque revival during the 1960s.
It has a good hook on the back and a strong wooden backing.
